Chapter 14: School and Pranks

***

After taking a one-day leave, Fuwa Yozora went back to school the next day like usual.

She wasn’t exactly a cracked student, and since she never had time to sweat her academics, her grades stayed mid-tier—just enough to stay off the radar.

She lived for the feeling of not being perceived by her teachers.

The surname "Fuwa" wasn't super rare, so almost no one linked her to the Sanyei-gumi.

Momoyama Private Academy was a school for the elites, full of trust-fund kids who had seen it all. Since everyone there was either rich or influential, Fuwa Yozora fit right in and felt totally chill.

Her "lone wolf" personality meant she had zero friends, though.

Not that she cared.

During lunch break, after finishing her bento alone, Fuwa Yozora leaned over her desk, feeling dead tired. For some reason, she’d been full of energy last night and spent half the night grinding kendo practice.

That long odachi Geto Suguru gave her just felt too good in her hands.

Too bad he took it back.

She shifted her position to relax her neck when the girls in the classroom started buzzing.

"Did you see? I think he’s a student from that religious vocational school. They’re here to check the school's feng shui or whatever."

"OMG, he’s so cool. And he’s literally a giant—is he really just a high schooler?"

"He must be cracked. He’s leading the team instead of a teacher. I lowkey want his socials..."

Ugh, so loud. Fuwa Yozora opened her eyes and stared blankly at the blackboard.

Then the guys joined the chat.

"He looks like a delinquent, honestly. That hair is goofy, and he gives off dangerous vibes."

"He’s not even doing anything. Everyone else is working while he just stands there. He's all mid, no substance."

The girls immediately clapped back.

"You guys are just salty haters. He’s gorgeous—those fox eyes are highkey mesmerizing."

Wait.

Fox eyes?

Fuwa Yozora snapped out of her daze. She had a feeling she knew exactly who they were talking about.

Still dealing with barriers and Curses? As expected, that "main character" energy of his caused a scene wherever he went.

Fuwa Yozora yawned and put her head back down on the desk.

It had nothing to do with her anyway. They hadn't talked since they split yesterday; it was pure radio silence.

He does his missions, she does her schoolwork. That’s how it should be.

Just as Fuwa Yozora blocked out the noise and was about to drift off, the gossip grew louder and closer until it woke her up again.

Then, she heard a familiar voice.

"Ah, found you. Young Lady Fuwa~"

Fuwa Yozora felt a chill run down her spine as a million eyes locked onto her.

He’s doing this on purpose. Adding the "Young Lady" title and everything.

She stood up tiredly. She was the only "Fuwa" in class, so there was no point in ghosting him.

At the classroom door, the boy in the dark Jujutsu High uniform flashed a smile that was pure brainrot—dangerously charming.

"Young Lady Fuwa, I need a word. Mind coming outside for a sec?"

Could you be any more extra? Use a phone like a normal person. Immediately, a girl who usually never talked to her squeezed over.

"Wait, what?! Fuwa, you know him? Why didn't you tell us?"

"What’s the lore? Is it like that? No wonder Fuwa never looks at guys—this is why!"

"No shot. How did Fuwa end up with a delinquent like him? I thought she was pure, but is she lowkey a wild one?"

Fuwa Yozora took a deep breath and locked eyes with those dark gold pupils.

Geto Suguru wore a devious grin and raised his voice intentionally.

"We’re... child... hood... friends... you know."

Revenge. This was 100% payback for how she acted at Jujutsu High yesterday.

The classroom turned into a mosh pit of whispers. Fuwa Yozora kept a stone face, stood up, and walked toward the door.

"Shut it. Follow me."

"Young Lady Fuwa, are you blushing?"

Geto Suguru looked so smug; he was clearly living for the drama he was causing her.

To his surprise, Fuwa Yozora reached back and snatched his wrist. Her pale violet eyes showed nothing but annoyance.

There wasn't a hint of "blushing" to be found.

Geto Suguru let himself be dragged away. Or rather, he had stood at the door waiting for exactly this kind of reaction.

It was a much more entertaining reaction than he had expected.

"I assume you aren't so bored that you came here just to troll me."

"What if I said I was?"

They reached a deserted corner behind the school building. Fuwa Yozora stared at him, seeing right through his cap.

Fine, he couldn't play her after all.

Geto Suguru shrugged, his tone turning casual.

"The Jujutsu higher-ups came to fix the barrier today. I’m on guard duty to make sure no Curses try to spawn-kill them during the process. It’s fixed now, so I need you to walk around the perimeter and see if you spot any leaks."

This was actual business, so Fuwa Yozora didn't decline.

She followed behind Geto Suguru, watching him lead the way with total "unbothered" vibes.

Unfortunately, it was afternoon, and since they were both eye candy, plenty of students were leaning out of classroom windows whistling at them.

Fuwa Yozora was used to being an NPC at school; this much attention felt wrong.

Seeing her head down and silent, the black-haired boy smirked and teased her.

"Why is the Young Lady acting so shy at school?"

"Should I go grab a lead pipe and fold them instead?"

Geto Suguru actually laughed. If Fuwa Yozora was making jokes like that, she was definitely pressed.

"Can you walk faster?"

"I'm so tired, though. I’ve been standing in the sun all morning—"

"..."

Actually, Geto Suguru wanted to say that the reason her classmates were staring was that she was a beautiful "monkey" with a unique aura.

She made people want to investigate her, yet she kept everyone at arm's length.

The basketball court sat at the north end of the campus. Kids were playing during lunch, and as they saw the boy in a different uniform walking with the pretty second-year girl, the rumors reached a fever pitch.

Suddenly, a cold chill invaded the area. The frost crept up Fuwa Yozora’s bare legs, and she instinctively looked toward Geto Suguru.

As she met his dark gold eyes, Geto Suguru reached out and gently tucked her head into his chest.

A Curse's tongue whipped through the gaps in the basketball court fence, lunging with insane speed at the spot where Fuwa Yozora had just been standing.

The sound of excited screeching made Geto Suguru annoyed. That greedy, hideous face dripped foul liquid all over the ground.

"As expected of the Young Lady. We really did need you to check the perimeter."

Geto Suguru raised his hand. The sheer level diff meant this Grade 2 Curse had zero chance; it was crushed into a small black orb in his palm.

He suddenly realized he was still touching this monkey.

He let go, feeling a bit "some type of way." Fuwa Yozora looked at the object in his hand, her heart tightening with a strange, bittersweet feeling.

Did this count as him... keeping the promise they made yesterday?

Don't let me get hurt. "Thanks. Let me buy you a cold drink?"

Fuwa Yozora’s voice softened. The summer breeze messed up her black hair, fluttering the hem of her white school skirt.

Geto Suguru swallowed the foul, disgusting orb, but he figured the upcoming drink would probably taste pretty sweet.

"I want two bottles."

"Bet."

Today was a massive W. The Young Lady had helped him lure another Curse. Thinking about it like that, she really was a useful monkey.

Yeah. Just a useful monkey. Nothing more.
